Most people who enjoy the city life of Delhi are unaware of the fact that a pristine natural view is nearby. We Delhiites often pack our bags and opt for places like Rajasthan, Himachal or Uttarakhand, for a short trip. But if you are too stuck to take that perfect break, then just a single day is enough to refresh you and the destination is within Delhi itself. How many of you can even imagine that a vibrant city like Delhi can be home to pristine lakes? While you wonder, let me tell you about a great one day travel destination in Delhi, known as Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary.
Asola is a place near Tughlaqabad in the southern part of Delhi. Tughlaqabad is generally known for the ancient Tughlaqabad Fort, but the antiquity of the place including the place called Asola predates ages back. Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary is a natural forest and forms a part of the Southern Ridge area of the Aravalli Range. The place is generally less discovered hence it’s not crowded. It’s actually good news because if you want to escape the hustle bustle of city life and clear your mind for a day, then Asola Bhatti will make for an ideal place to visit. The main attraction of the place is a vast scenic lake surrounded by thick vegetation and picturesque view of the Aravalli Hill. This is in-fact an unimaginable to find within Delhi. You will be surprised to know that the Forest Department officials are now even considering the possibility of leopard population deep within the forests as recently a decomposed body of a leopard was discovered by the villagers of Asola. But it is a proven fact that this place is a home to species like Indian Hyena and wild cats. Besides, the place is home to Black-Naped Hare Porcupine, Civets, Jackals, Blue Bull (Nilgai) (largest antelope of the country), Blackbuck(Fastest land animal surviving in the wild in the country). For bird lovers this place is the perfect place to watch exotic migrating bird species.
Apart from wild encounters, you can also explore the place by cycles as there are well defined cycle trails within the forest which will lead you to the interiors. Its proximity to major metro station like Tughlaqabad and major roads like Mehrauli-Badarpur Road makes it an ideal place to visit throughout the year. But you will be able to enjoy the place more during winter. The timing is 9AM to 5PM from Monday to Sunday. You need to take prior permission to visit the place.
