Every year, the Rann Utsav engulfs the lustrous white desert of Dordo at Kutch with festive extravaganza and vibrancy. Organised by Tourism Corporation of Gujarat, the festival is a melting pot of cultures, sights and sounds, which reflects the distinct spirit of Gujarat. The Rann Utsav is like a never-ending journey which is celebrated for ninety days during the full moon nights of winter months. This year, the Rann Utsav will be celebrated from 18th November, 2015 to 29th February, 2016, to let you embark on a journey full of festive fervour.
Apart from featuring the cultural grandiose of Gujarat, Rann Utsav gives a unique chance to witness the breathtaking beauty of the land. From viridescent grasslands to pristine beaches and vast desert, the festival offers access to Gujarat’s diverse topography. The celebration consists of a wide range of eventful activities which can be experienced during the entire course of Rann Utsav. As the festival marks the beginning of winter, the celebration starts with Christmas (25th December, 2015) followed by events such as New Year Eve celebrations (31st, December, 2015). The beauty of Rann can be best experienced during full moon. During this time, the white salt desert of Rann shines bright like a diamond and emits a magical aura. This year, travellers can experience this during the full moon on 24th January, 2016 and 22nd February, 2016. Other major celebrations of the festival are Valentine’s Day and Holi.
The Kite Flying Festival (13th and 14th January, 2016) is an important part of Rann Utsav. It holds special cultural significance as it marks the beginning of Makar Sankranti. Also known as the festival of Uttarayan, the event has a huge international appeal. Tourists, kite-makers and flyers come from around the globe come to take part in the event. The festival displays a tapestry of colours as thousands of kites swing and swirl through the bright sunny sky of Gujarat.
Thrill is on the card, as this year, adventure sport will form a big part of Rann Utsav. Adventure enthusiasts and travellers can indulge themselves in raw fun through various action packed activities like Para-Motoring, Desert car rally, Hot Air Ballooning, All-Terrain Vehicle ride, Rifle Shooting and many more. Every element of the festival reflects the progressive nature of Gujarat as it is well equipped with modern amenities like Wi-Fi connectivity, dedicated entertainment zones, cafeterias and conference facilities.
Travellers can enjoy every bit of the festival in utmost comfort from around 350 well appointed tents at the venue, overlooking the vast silvery desert. Each tent is an epitome of luxury as it offers all the fine amenities and convenience.

These stalls sell ethnic arts and crafts which will act as reminders of a great experience.
